On 9 February 2026, the new archive website HOTSPOTS OF ART will be presented at Lenbachhaus. The launch will take place as part of the OFF ON event organised by the Munich Department of Culture, which is dedicated to Munich’s off-space scene.

HOTSPOTS OF ART is a digital archive that is constantly growing and includes current and historical, non-commercial art venues in Munich. The website, developed by PLATFORM Munich in collaboration with Studio Alpenglühen, showcases the diversity of these venues.

The project is based on an analogue city map designed in 2020 by PLATFORM volunteer Hanna Banholzer. This idea is now being relaunched as a revised online version. In the future, the digital map will be expanded to include a historical layer documenting the transformation of Munich’s art scene since 1945.

The event OFF ON focuses on the importance of Offspaces for the city of Munich and their support by the Department of Culture. Film portraits of twelve Munich off-spaces directed by Julia Benkert will be shown for the first time, followed by a discussion with Nina Oswald (Munich Department of Culture), artist and professor Olaf Nicolai, and filmmaker Julia Benkert. Afterwards, the archive website HOTSPOTS OF ART will be presented.
