ExhibitionPerformancePerformative installation

With their performative installation, the artists* of the changing, interdisciplinary collective WORKERS & The Random Collective continue their ongoing WORKERS series, in which they investigate the production process and the cultural-political framework conditions of art.

What happens when the working process becomes the focus of attention, when the work, construction and dismantling of an exhibition are declared the actual artistic product? By means of disguises in blue coats and animal masks, the WORKERS alienate everyday actions and ways of working and thus exhibit previously invisible activities.

In the entrance room of the Department of Labour and Economic Development, the collective uses humour and (self-)irony in an open experiment to explore political-economic questions about the spatial conditions for the creation of art in Munich. For this purpose, they transform the place into an interactive scenario that questions the artistic work in its end in itself and thereby puts the site-specific properties of space as a presentation surface for art up for discussion.

“It’s about space, negotiable or not.

Failed and cleared. Thought space, dream instead of space,

it’s about dreams of spaces, no-man’s-land, an in-between state.”
